Poland will open Euro 2012 against ex-champions Greece while record winners Germany were on Friday drawn into a tough group with ex-champions Netherlands and Denmark plus former finalists Poland, dpa reported.

Co-hosts Poland start the tournament on June 8, 2012, against the 2004 winner Greece in Group A which also feature 2008 semi-finalists Russia and the Czech Republic, winners in 1976 and runners-up 1996. Russia and Greece are in the same group for the third time in a row.

The hosts Ukraine were drawn by former stars such as Marco van Basten and Zinedine Zidane to face Sweden, France and England in Group D.

Group B is arguably the most difficult, with the record three-times champions Germany facing 1988 winners Netherlands, 1992 champs Denmark and Portugal, who were in the 2004 final. The Dutch beat the Germans en route to the 1988 title and the Danes beat Germany in the 1992 final.

Title holders Spain and Italy appear to be the top teams in Group C, into which Ireland and Croatia were also drawn in Kiev's Palace of Arts.
