A US F-16 fighter jet went missing late Monday over the Adriatic, prompting a search by the US and Italian militaries and the Italian Coast Guard, dpa reported quoted as the US Air Force saying.
The US air base in Aviano lost contact with the aircraft after it took off from the base on a training missing, and Italian aircraft and ships were dispatched to its last known location, it said.
The search teams were working on the assumption that the F-16 with one pilot on board had crashed into the sea, the air force said.
