French premier rules out vote on Syria intervention

French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault on Monday ruled out seeking parliament's authorization for possible military action against Syria, dpa reported.

The opposition has been pressing the government to follow the example of Britain and the US in organizing a vote after a debate Wednesday in parliament.

The government has answered that the constitution does not require the president to receive parliament's approval before going to war.

Emerging from two hours of talks with parliamentary leaders Ayrault reiterated that stance, saying there would be no vote because "the final decision, when a coalition is put together, can only be taken by the president. ..."
