BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 13. The next CIS meeting will be held in Moscow on October 8, 2024, Russia's President Vladimir Putin said at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in a limited format in Bishkek, Trend reports.
"Considering that Russia will assume the BRICS chairmanship in 2024, within which principles and criteria for cooperation with state partners are currently being developed, we will focus on strengthening the members of the CIS with this alliance. Of course, Russia will make every effort to develop contacts within the Commonwealth with friendly states and international organizations. In this regard, we also welcome the decision made today to establish the status of observers and partners within the CIS," Putin said.
He emphasized that during Russia's chairmanship, the focus will be on enhancing mechanisms for joint action in the military and law enforcement spheres, both against new and traditional challenges, in order to strengthen the external borders of the Commonwealth.
"We'll do everything for the implementation of specialized CIS programs, including the concept of military cooperation and border security strengthening programs. We also attach great importance to working with partners to expand cultural and humanitarian ties, as well as in the fields of healthcare, science, education, and sports. During the chairmanship, we aim to provide an impulse to the inter-parliamentary assembly, and we are interested in the formation of a unified legal field," he added.
Today, the Kyrgyz capital hosted the meetings of the CIS Council of Heads of State in narrow and enlarged formats.
