Turkey is celebrating one of the most important Islamic holidays Kurban. After the festivities, Turkey's leaders made statements about unity and solidarity, the TRT reported.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul read a celebratory prayer at the Hojatapa Mosque in Ankara, and then congratulated the citizens on the holiday.

"On holidays people share with their neighbors and help those in need," he said.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyib Erdogan made a festive namaz at the Eyup Sultan Mosque in Istanbul. Erdogan said he hopes the holiday will bring unity and happiness to people's lives.

"I would like to see the festival from a slightly different angle at a time when our national unity and brotherhood project is on the agenda," he said.
