Prime Minister of the Kurdish Administration in northern Iraq Nechirvan Barzani will visit Turkey today in the light of yesterday's attack on Turkish militaries, Huriyyet daily newspaper reported.
During the visit, Barzani plans to meet with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss the issues of combating terrorism.
Late September, Barzani urged both sides to lay down arms and start negotiations adding that Turkey cannot combat terrorism effectively by conducting military operations in northern Iraq.
Yesterday's attack by the Kurdish terrorists in the Hakkari province bordering Iraq left at least 24 Turkish militaries dead and injured 18.
Shortly thereafter, Turkey launched counter-terrorism operations in northern Iraq as a result of which twenty-one militants were killed.
Turkey has recently initiated an active struggle against terrorism. The Turkish Air Force throw blows at Kurdish rebel positions in northern Iraq.
Air strikes were conducted after a militant terror attack in southeastern Turkey on Aug. 17, in which nine Turkish servicemen were killed. These were the first strikes by Turkey in northern Iraq in more than a year.
Later, as a result of air strikes by Turkish Air Forces more than 300 militants were killed.
