Davutoglu outlines Turkey’s stance on Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that Turkey's stance on Syria is clear and principled.

Davutoglu told a news conference after completion of his contacts in Bonn, Germany that Turkey has raised its voice and will continue to do so as the Syrian administration continues pressure [on protestors] after efforts exerted for nine months, TRT English reported.

Stating that Syria has ignored Turkey and the Arab League's joint initiative, Davutoglu said that there is no alternative other than sanctions.

"We cannot let people being killed everyday; we cannot keep silent to this. Turkey's determined policy on Syria will not change" Davutoglu said.

When reminded of reports on Syria's decision to end the activities of its consulate in Gaziantep, Davutoglu said: "Syria's closing down its consulate in Gaziantep is its own decision. But instead of doing this, it should open its doors and hearts to its own people."
