Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 6
By Anakhanum Khidayatova - Trend:
Turkey is increasingly at odds with Russia, Paul Goble, publicist, former analyst at CIA and the US Department of State, told Trend in an exclusive interview Oct. 6.
"The protest about overflights is a symptom of a bigger problem," he noted referring to Turkey's recent remarks that came after violation of Turkish airspace by Russian aircraft.
Earlier, Russia's Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry due to a repeated violation of the country's airspace by Russian planes. This followed by Turkey's statement that in case of a repetition of such actions by Russia, Moscow will bear responsibility for undesirable consequences.
Goble also said that the current situation won't help Azerbaijan maintain a balanced foreign policy with regard to Turkey and Russia.
He noted that Turkey is moving away from Russia, just as Azerbaijan is moving closer to the latter.
