Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec.28

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces has cancelled New Year celebrations in all military units, DHA agency reported Dec.28.

The celebrations have been cancelled due to the considerable losses of Turkish army during the clashes with the Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK).

Over 60 servicemen were killed in Turkey as a result of the clashes with PKK over the last month, according to Turkish media.

PKK attacks on the military units and police stations have become more frequent in south-eastern Turkey in recent months.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union listed the PKK as a terrorist organization.
