The third airport of Istanbul will reach its design capacity in 2028, a source in the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

The total cost of the project is 10.247 billion euros, according to the source.

“The work at the third airport of Istanbul is carried out in four stages, and the second phase of the airport’s construction is underway,” the ministry said.

It was noted that the activities for the implementation of the third and fourth stages of the airport construction won’t affect the current operations of the main airport of Istanbul.

The opening ceremony of the new airport, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan, took place in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.

The third airport of Istanbul was built in the vicinity of Lake Terkos, located in the northern part of the city.
