The cargo turnover at Turkish Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport from January through March 2021 made up 42,706 tons, down 44 percent compared to the same period of last year, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.
According to the ministry, in the reporting period, cargo turnover on domestic flights via the airport amounted to 26,643 tons (a decrease of 15 percent compared to 1Q2020), and on international - 18,063 tons (a decrease of 62 percent).
Passenger traffic at the airport made up over 4.2 million, which is 40 percent less over the year. Of these, more than 3 million passengers were served on domestic flights (30-percent reduction), while over 1.1 million passengers - on international flights (down 56 percent).
The ministry also noted that the number of performed flights was 32,102, which is 33 percent less than in the first quarter of last year.
Meanwhile, 21,235 flights were carried out on domestic lines (decrease by 25 percent), and 10,867 - on international lines (45-percent drop).
From January through March 2021, the volume of cargo transportation through all Turkish airports amounted to 17.6 million passengers, and the cargo turnover – 600,433 tons, added the ministry.
