Two people died in a plane crash Thursday morning at the Laredo International Airport, Laredo Morning Times reports.
The twin-engine Piper PA-31 was attempting to return to the runway after smoke was reported coming from the aircraft's left engine, according to Lynn Lunsford, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman.
Two people were aboard the aircraft, Lunsford said. They have not been identified.
The Laredo Police and Fire departments, Texas DPS troopers, airport police and the Webb County Medical Examiner's Office were at the scene as of 11:30 a.m.
The airport has been shutdown as authorities investigate the crash. Flight delays are expected.
