Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 23

By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:

Wizz Air will resume flights between Hungary's Budapest and Azerbaijan's Baku from March 2016, Arif Mammadov, the vice-president of Azerbaijan Airlines, told reporters Oct. 23.

He said a contract will be signed with Hungary's Wizz Air Oct. 28.

"We have 99 percent agreed with the terms of Wizz Air," said Mammadov. "A delegation of the Hungarian airline will arrive in Baku on Oct. 27."

"The contract will be signed Oct. 28 on the terms that are preferential for the Hungarian company. Wizz Air was offered to operate to Gabala, but the airline insisted on Baku, and we agreed on this issue," said Mammadov.

He added that the Hungarian airline will start operating flights between Budapest and Baku from March next year.

"We offered them to begin flights in the winter, but, they decided to start in March," said Mammadov. "In the start, flight frequency will be one flight a week, and in summer will increase to two flights a week."

"At the same time, we put a condition that them don't interrupt flights in winter, otherwise the contract will be terminated and such benefits won't be provided," he said.

Hungarian carrier Wizz Air, which has gained popularity among tourists because of its cheap passenger traffic, was planning to resume flights from Baku to Budapest from April on the basis of an intergovernmental agreement on air communication.
