Azerbaijan, Baku, July 10 / Trend /
Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to continue negotiation process to consider issue on the "Kapaz" field (Serdar - in Turkmen interpretation), Turkmen Foreign Ministry's statement disseminated by the country's Embassy in Azerbaijan says on Tuesday.
"In connection with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov's statement made on July 9, 2012 that Turkmenistan has not formally appealed to the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding consideration of issue of dispute in international arbitrations in connection with the "Serdar" field, Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan states that diplomatic notes have been repeatedly sent to Azerbaijani side on the country's illegal unilateral actions in the Caspian Sea (that is illegal development of "Omar" and "Osman" fields [Azeri and Chirag fields - Trend], as well as improper claims applied to the "Serdar" field).
In its formal notifications Turkmen side expressed its readiness to continue negotiation process on the above-mentioned matter and emphasized that in case of failure to reach a bilateral agreement Turkmenistan reserves the right to appeal to international courts and arbitral instances," Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its statement.
The Foreign Ministry also states that on Aug.4, 2009 the Ministry issued the country's official position on the delimitation of seabed and subsoil of the Caspian Sea between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, which also noted suitability of appealing to the International Court.
"Based on the foregoing, the Turkmen side expresses its astonishment and incomprehension of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister's statement," Turkmen Foreign Ministry stated.
Yesterday Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said that Turkmenistan has not sent any proposal and official note on the Kapaz field to Azerbaijan.
