According to the Iranian Health Ministry's statistics, the number of individuals infected with AIDS hits 23,125 people in Iran. However, as the ministry expert Hengame Namdari Tabar said at the workshop on the topic "National strategic plan against AIDS" that the number of the AIDS-infected people is more than the statistics in Mashhad on Nov.4, Iranian khabaronline.ir website reported on Friday.
Namdari Tabar said the number of unregistered AIDS-infected people is more than 100,000 people in the country.
She said 69 percent of them were infected as a result of intravenous injection of narcotic substances.
According to the report, people aged 25-34 are mainly infected.
The Iranian Committee to Combat AIDS warned about the increasing number of HIV infections through sexual contact. According to the committee, there are 83,000-120,000 HIV-infected. Roughly 24,000 HIV-infected were revealed. Roughly 4,311 infected people died in Iran till June 2011.
