The Republican Seismological Service Center has commented on the information about an upcoming strong earthquake in Sheki.
The Seismological Service Center received many calls and appeals that the information about strong earthquake which is supposed to occur in Sheki on May 16 is being spread among Sheki residents, the center said today.
"Taking into account the numerous appeals, we want to stress that no one can predict earthquakes with accuracy not only in Azerbaijan but worldwide," the message said. "Therefore, the information disseminated in Sheki is unfounded."
Certain tremors in the region are normal under the influence of earthquakes in Zagatala region. These tremors will gradually weaken, a statement said.
"It is necessary to enlighten people on this issue and to prevent panic and anxiety among people," the report said.
