The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is ready to assist Turkmenistan in further improvement of the democratic processes, OSCE Secretary General Lamberto Zannier's letter to the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov on the occasion of his election to the second term says.
"I confirm willingness of the OSCE and the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat to assist in the further development of democratic processes, including the fulfillment of international recommendations on improving the electoral system," the letter says.
"I would like to encourage your leadership to continue making efforts in the sphere of democratization and economic and social development," Zannier said in his letter published by local media outlets on Saturday.
The letter says that the OSCE attaches great importance to a comprehensive approach to security. "In this regard, it is important to emphasize Turkmenistan's important role in strengthening global energy security," the letter says.
Zannier met with President Berdimuhammadov in Ashgabat in the autumn of 2011 as part of its participation in the Energy Security Conference held on a joint initiative of the Turkmen leadership, Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities and the Lithuanian Presidency in 2011.
"This year Turkmenistan celebrates the 20th anniversary of its accession to the OSCE. I am confident that our partnership and cooperation will be strengthened and contribute to improvement and enhancing the effectiveness of the organization's activity," Zannier said in his letter.
