At least 11 people were killed Monday in a suicide attack on a funeral in northern Baghdad, police said, dpa reported.

A further 30 people were injured when a suicide attacker set off his explosive-laden car near the ceremony in the Iraqi city's mainly Sunni Azamieh district.

The attack is the third in as many days on funerals in the Iraqi capital.

Alsumaria television reported that 14 people were killed in an attack on Sunday in the largely Sunni southern Dora district, while 50 died and 100 were injured in a twin bombing on a funeral in Shiite-dominated Sadr City on Saturday.

There has been a sharp rise in attacks in Iraq in recent months, raising fears of a return to the sectarian violence that pushed the country to the brink of civil war in 2006 and 2007.

According to United Nations estimates, 1,057 people were killed in July, the deadliest month in more than five years in Iraq, while at least 916 civilians were killed in August.
