Kazakhstan , Astana, Oct. 6 / Trend A. Maratov /
Kazakhstan supports Lithuania's efforts as the OSCE chairman to resolve protracted conflicts, in particular those of Nagorno-Karabakh and Transnistria, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said at a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart Dalia Grybauskaite.
"Lithuania continues Kazakhstan's initiatives," Nazarbayev said. "Kazakhstan dealt with these issues during its chairmanship."
The Kazakh President said that Lithuania 's chairmanship in the OSCE is good continuity. The ideas pledged at the OSCE summit in Astana in December of 2010 will be continued.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
