Georgian railway workers plan to go on strike on November 14 by calling for overtime pay, a fair bonus system and bonuses for the length of service and qualifications.

"The strike will begin across the country," chairman of the Georgian new union of railway workers Vitaly Giorgadze told media today. "Rail workers of all categories will also join the strike."

According to the media, around 12,000 people work at the Georgian Railway Company. Around 6000 workers have already joined the new trade union.

The initiators of the strike met with representatives of the non-governmental sector and the Georgian Public Defender's office.

Representative of Ombudsman's office Salome Vardiashvili stressed that the problem can be resolved through the constructive negotiations.

Georgian Railway management has not made ​​any official statement on the issue yet.
