Gusar district is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Azerbaijan, and not only because of the local Shahdag ski complex.
Gusar is extremely interesting for its nature and traditions of the people living here.
For example, the village of Laza is located in the north-eastern spurs of the Main Caucasus Ridge at the foot of the Shah Yaylag high plateau. The surroundings of the village are very picturesque, numerous waterfalls cascade down the cliffs.
The village is populated by ethnic Lezgins, whose history is linked to the Caucasian Albania, one of the oldest states on the territory of Azerbaijan.
The village is another interesting attraction for tourists coming into the country for the European Games.
Baku 2015 is the first ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015.
There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
