Azerbaijani athletes Sergey Bezugliy and Alexei Kupin have advanced to the finals of the competitions with double kayaks (1,000 meters) at the First European Games.

In the semi-finals, Azerbaijani athletes ranked second and advanced to the finals where they will compete for medals with rowers from Russia, Belarus, Hungary, Poland, Germany, Ukraine, the Czech Republic and Romania.

The finals of the competitions will be held June 15.

The canoe sprint competitions are being held in Azerbaijan's Mingachevir city.

The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till June 28.

There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition.

Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
