Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 23

By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:

SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic) doesn't intend to abandon the export of oil products through Russia, a source in SOCAR told Trend Dec.23.

"SOCAR has been always committed to the strategy of routes diversification for oil products supply," said the source. "There are no concrete plans for the use of this route [transit through Russia] for now, but this route is not ruled out."

"The routes are diversified depending on how SOCAR implements its export," the source said. "In early 2015, SOCAR had some problems with the passage of Azerbaijani tanks through Georgia, so the company used a new route and sent a part of products through it."

SOCAR exported nearly 46,000 tons of oil products by transit through Russia in 2015.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) exported 1.1 million tons of oil products in January-November 2015 versus 1.07 million tons exported in the same period of 2014.

The company exported 1.2 million tons of oil products in 2014, compared to 1.05 million tons in 2013.

Previously, oil products in Azerbaijan were produced at two refineries in Baku. Both of these refineries were included in SOCAR, which annually processes around 7 million tons of oil produced at onshore and offshore fields with its own funds.
