By Maksim Tsurkov - Trend:

Two new wells will be drilled in 2016 in Azerbaijan as part of advance boring within the second phase of the Shah Deniz gas field's development, a source in the country's oil and gas market has told Trend.

Eight wells have been drilled so far, said the source, adding that they need to be developed and launched.

"Drilling as part of the Shah Deniz 2 project has been divided into five stages," he further said, noting that wells are drilled constantly and two to three wells will be commissioned every year.

"The drilling is planned to end in 2026-2027," added the source.

The other two wells are planned to be drilled within the Shah Deniz 2 this year, he said.

In the first three quarters of 2015, some 7.2 billion cubic meters of gas and 1.66 million tons of condensate were produced at the Shah Deniz field.

As part of the second stage of the field's development, the gas will be exported to Turkey and to European markets through the expansion of the South Caucasus Pipeline and the construction of Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).

Gas output will increase from 9 billion to 16 billion cubic meters a year as part of implementation of the Shah Deniz 2 project.
