The economically active population in Azerbaijan amounted to 5.19 million people as of January 1, 2020, of which 4.9 million people or 95.2 percent account for the employed, Trend reports citing the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers in 2019.
According to the report, the country's unemployment rate in 2019 was 4.8 percent, showing a decrease compared to 5 percent in 2018.
As of January 1, 2020, the number of employees in the country amounted to 1.645 million people, including 914,500 people in the public sector of the economy and 730,900 in the private sector.
Meanwhile, the average monthly number of hours worked per employee was 151.8 hours. As of January 1, 2020, the number of unemployed registered with the employment services amounted to 81,300 people. The average amount of insurance payments on unemployment amounted to 276.4 manat ($162.5).
