Lord Russell Johnston’s Nagorno-Karabakh Visit Postponed

Germany, Berlin / Тrend corr A. Maharramli / The visit of the head of the subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) lord Russell Johnston to Armenia and Azerbaijan scheduled for the beginning of November has been postponed. "My visit to the region is to take place by the end of the year, but the exact date has not been set yet," lord Johnston said to Trend in Berlin on 5 November.

His visit to the region was expected to take place on 9 November. Johnston said to Trend in October that the date of the visit had to be coordinated with the working schedules of Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents.

We are coordinating the date of the visit, he said.

The PACE subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh was established in the spring of 2005 to control implementation of the PACE Resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"My subcommittee is not a mediator in settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The idea was to improve contacts and dialogue primarily between Azerbaijani and Armenian parliamentarians. We may hold workshops in Baku and Yerevan and thus will improve the relations," lord Johnston said to Trend previously.
