24th Body Pulled Out From Ruins of Collapsed Building in   Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / A 24th body was pulled out from the ruins of the collapsed 16-storey building in Baku on 7 September. The identity of the victim has not been yet been defined, Trend correspondent reported from the scene of the incident.

A building which was under construction by Mutefekkir company collapsed on 28 August at about 6:00 p.m. As a result, 24 people died and 5 were injured. According to official reports, 1 more people presumed to still be buried under the ruins.

The Baku Prosecutor's Office has filed a case in accordance with Articles 222.2 (violation of safety regulations during construction, mining and other work, resulting in death and injury) and Article 222.1 (violation of safety regulations during construction work) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. A preventive research group has been formed with the Prosecutor's Office and the Emergency Situations Ministry.

The Director-General of Mutefekkir construction company, Ali Muradov, the company's Engineer General, Askar Aliyev, master builders Farhad Hasanov and Gadir Salimov, were all detained in connection with the incident. They have been sentenced to three months imprisonment.

Baku City Yasamal District Court sentenced Akif Maharramov, the head of the Housing Department of Baku City Executive Power, to 3 months imprisonment for contravening Article 308.1 (abuse of power) of the Azerbaijan Criminal Code, the spokesman for Azerbaijan Prosecutor General's Office, Vugar Aliyev, said to Trend.
