Opposition Party Brings Action against Executive Administration of Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. S.Ilhamgizi / The Azerbaijan National Independent Party (ANIP) brought an action against the Executive Administration of Baku due to violation of freedom of assembly, Ali Orujev, the ANIP's secretary on press and popularization, said on 26 September.

The Executive Administration of Baku did not allow a rally to be held in front of the Cabinet of Ministers on 28 August, 7 and 20 September. The party's members stated that the Administration limited their rights for assembly.

The appeal submitted to Sabail District Court demands they take measures against the Administration for making willful decisions.

ANIP was founded in 1992 and was the first party to officially receive registration in Azerbaijan. Etibar Mammadov was founder of the party and chairman until 2004. Mammadov is currently the deputy chairman of the International Democratic Community
