Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I. Alizadeh / Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) gave permission to increase its contingent of peacemaking forces in Afghanistan. The decision was made in the 19 October Parliamentary session.
MP Ziyafat Askarov, the Chairman of the Permanent Parliamentary Commission on Security and Defence Issues, said that the Azerbaijani Parliament gave permission which also includes providing Azerbaijani peacemaking forces for the Turkish Military Forces.
NATO leadership appealed to Baku requesting that it increase the number of Azerbaijani peacemaking forces in Afghanistan.
Taking into consideration the aforesaid, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev submitted the bill to increase the number of Azerbaijani peacemaking forces in Afghanistan two times. Twenty-two Azerbaijani soldiers participate in peacemaking operations in Afghanistan. After passing the bill the number of Azerbaijani soldiers will reach forty-four or forty-five. The parliament approved the bill.
