Envoy of Azerbaijani Candidate for Presidency in Georgia Accused of Insulting Human Dignity

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / Dashgin Gulmammadov, the Head of the Election Office of Azerbaijani Fazil Aliyev who is a candidate for the presidency in Georgia, was arrested and charged with insulting human dignity, Aliyev reported to Trend on 29 November.

According to him, Gulmammadov is accused of making insulting remarks made on the website. However, Aliyev considers that the accusations are false and groundless. "The arrest is aimed at preventing my election campaign and they have achieved this. The Government has practically destroyed my election campaign," Aliyev said.

According to him, the people supporting him were victimized by law-enforcement bodies. Due to the obstacles encountered, continuing the election campaign is now impossible, he said.

In addition, Aliyev said that the information that Gulmammadov is accused of the coup d'etat is not true. According to him, currently Gulmammadov is being kept in a detention cell at Georgia's Ministry of National Security. A lawyer has already been provided to Gulmammadov and Aliyev plans to meet with him today.

Furthermore, Aliyev said that they will begin protest actions.
