Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 February / Trend corr. E.Huseynli / Contradictions occurred within the Adalat opposition party of Azerbaijan due to participation in the upcoming presidential elections. "Adalat should not nominate its candidate," Elkhan Shukurlu, the deputy chairman of the party, stated to Trend.

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008. The opposition Musavat, Democratic and Azerbaijani National Independent parties stated that they would nominate their candidates for participation in the approaching presidential elections. Other opposition parties (Popular Front, Liberal and Citizen and Development) would boycott the elections if no changes to be made in formation of election commissions on parity bases.

The ruling New Azerbaijan Party will nominate the candidature of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Shukurlu said that foreign forces, particularly west countries, will use the Azerbaijani opposition with their own interest as a mean of pressure to make the state to change its mind from military settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. From such point of view, Shukurlu considers that his party should not participate in the play and opposition parties should support Aliyev's candidature for national interest. But financial and staff resources do not allow the party to participate in the elections.

Aliyev stated about possible military variants of settlement of the conflict during his recent statements.

Mutallim Rahimli, another deputy chairman of the party, stated to Trend that Adalat should participate in the presidential elections with its candidate. There are contradictions within the party in connection with participation in the presidential elections. "I believe that the party has potential to participate in the upcoming presidential elections," Rahimli said.

Adalat was founded in 1993. In1996, the party joined with another opposition Democratic party. Adalat restored its functioning by separating from Democratic party in 2000. MP Ilyas Ismaylov has been the chairman of the party since 2001. Ismaylov was a candidate for the presidential post during the elections in 2003.
