Azerbaijani Opposition Supports Strengthening of Punishment against CEC members who violate rules during elections

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 February / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The opposition political movement Way of Azerbaijan supports the reinforcement of punishment against members of the Central Election Commission (CEC), who violate the rules during the election process, Shamsaddin Rahimli, the deputy chairman of the movement, stated to Trend .

Rahimli stated that the proposals to inject changes in the Election Code were developed by 18 Azerbaijani opposition parties. MP Fazail Gazanfaroglu, chairman of Great establishment party, was commissioned to submit these proposals to the OSCE and other international organizations," Rahimli said.

The proposals into the Election Code are also concern the composition of CEC.

The movement proposes that CEC members should be elected by Parliament. Furthermore, the movement opposes the pre-election campaign in military units, penalty services and public transport.

The Way of Azerbaijan movement has not considered joining any election blocs. "The possibility of cooperation with other opposition parties will be discussed depending on the political situation in the country on the threshold of the presidential elections," deputy chairman said.

Way of Azerbaijan was founded in 2006. Ilgar Gasimov is the leader of the movement and will participate in the upcoming presidential elections with its own candidate.
