Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 June / Trend corr A. Gasimova/ "The visit of the EU High Commissioner Javier Solana to Georgia is a clear proof of the importance which EU attaches to Georgia and entire South Caucasus region," Christina Galah, Solana's Spokesperson, said to Trend .

On 5 June, Javier Solana, EU High Commissioner for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), will arrive in Tbilisi to pay a 2-day working visit.

"Georgia has become a close neighbour to the EU and the country is important for us," Galah reported via e-mail on 5 June.

She noted increasing concern at EU about Abkhazia-related tensed situation in Georgia, as well as about increasing military activity inside and around the region. Solana will hold negotiations both with Georgian authorities and in Sukhumi to make sure that EU may do more to defuse tension in the region.

During the visit, Solana will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in Batumi and Prime Minister Vladimir Gurgenidze, as well as with the leaders of Georgian opposition to discuss peaceful settlement of Abkhazian conflict within the internationally recognized Georgian borders.
