Azerbaijani Diplomat Elected Vice President of UN Human Rights Council

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 June / Trend corr. S.Agayeva / The standing representative from Azerbaijan in the UN Department and other international organizations based in Geneva has been elected the Vice President of the UN Human Rights Council.

Elchin Amirbayov, the Azerbaijani diplomat, has been elected a member of the bureau from the East-European regional group.

Amirbayov will act as the UN Human Rights Council Vice President and Reporter. The Azerbaijani diplomat was elected to this position in the meeting in Geneva on 19 June.

The standing representatives from Canada, Philippines and Argentina have been also elected the members of the bureau from their regional groups.

Nigerian ambassador Martin Uhomoibhi has been elected to head the United Nations Human Rights Council . Uhomoibhi replaced the Romanian ambassador Doru Costea, who was elected to the post in June 2007.
