Azerbaijani Opposition Party to Stage Continuous Demonstrations

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 July/ Trend , corr E. Babayev/ The oppositional Musavat party of Azerbaijan plans to stage continuous demonstrations. "The results of the demonstration held so far were positively assessed in the meeting of the party and the party resolved to hold discussions about the venue and date of the next demonstration in the offices of the party in the regions," Arif Hajili, head of the Central Administration of the party said to Trend . 

The activists of Musavat party attempted to hold a demonstration on 12 July. The activists intended to approach to the building of the City Administration however, police blocked their way. The demonstrators protested against restrictions on the freedom of assembly. It was the second demonstration of Musavat for the last month.  

According to Hajili, Musavat will fight further to restore freedom of assembly. "The party employs all means for this purpose. The date of the next meeting will be become available at the end of the discussions to be held in the regional offices of the party. The city administration of Baku does not allow us to hold a demonstration in the venues we want and thus, it violates law," he said.

The oppositional party Musavat was founded in 1992. Isa Gambar, the present Chairman of the Party was the Ex-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) in 1992 to1993 and was nominated for the 2003 presidential elections. The Party is represented by five MPs in the parliament.
