Service will visit Washington and the city of Laredo, Texas, on Jan. 24-31 in order strengthen the border security in Azerbaijan and to prevent the spread of smuggled mass
destruction weapons.
"The visit is funded within the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) International
Guests Program," the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan told Trend on Jan. 22.
During the week, the Azerbaijan State Border Service officials will meet with U.S.
Customs and Border Protection senior managers at the USCBP headquarters in Washington. Then they will visit the Laredo port. "During the visit to Laredo, the
Azerbaijan State Border Service representatives will become familiar with the border
security system and processes, business, automation, control, a model of
dynamic control, and other security and monitoring operations of the U.S.," the report says.
Since 2001, the Azerbaijan State Border Service with the support of the U.S.
Embassy through the U.S. State Department's Export Control and Related Border
Security (EXBS) program has been investigating and trying to prevent the
illegal proliferation of materials related to mass destruction weapons.
