U.S. Assistant Deputy Secretary of State mulls reforming Georgian Army in Tbilisi

The Georgian Defense Minister, Bacho Akhalaia and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Tina Kaidanov discussed the reforms in the Armed Forces of Georgia and the priorities in the defense sector.

The Georgian Defense Minister, Bacho Akhalaia and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Tina Kaidanov discussed the reforms in the Armed Forces of Georgia and the priorities in the defense sector.

The Defense Ministry reported the parties also discussed the importance of participation of the Georgian peacekeeping contingent in the ISAF operation and implementation of the commitments, enshrined in the Charter of the Georgian-American strategic partnership.

The Deputy Defense Minister, Nikoloz Vashakidze and the Head of the Department of International Relations and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Marika Laliashvili also attended the meeting.

From the U.S. side, the U.S. military attache Col. Matthew Brand, the Head of the U.S. Embassy Political-Economic Department, Julie Fisher and Acting Ambassador Kent Longsdon attended the meeting.
