The EU delegation expressed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. The Georgian Foreign Ministry reported that this statement was made during the 9th meeting of the Georgia-EU Cooperation Committee in Tbilisi.
From Georgia, the chairman at the meeting was Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalaganiya, and from the EU - Gunnar Wiegand, Head of Delegation, Director of Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia Department in the Directorate General for External Relations of the European Commission.
The meeting also discussed the theme of conflict resolution and the situation following the war, including the process of the Geneva consultations. The Georgian side emphasized the important role of the EU in ensuring stability and security in the Caucasus.
The meeting also focused on topical issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation and future plans. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the program "Eastern Partnership", signing an association agreement and the prospects for a deep and comprehensive free trade area.
The meeting also examined the human rights situation in Georgia, the rule of law, democracy, governance and the state of fundamental rights and freedoms.
The delegation appreciated the activities aimed at implementing the Action Plan within the European Neighborhood Policy, and Georgia's fulfilling the recommendations of the EU. Representatives of the European Union welcomed the completion of negotiations on registration of agreements on visa facilitation and readmission and the possibility of starting a dialogue on registration of an association agreement.
