Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Nov. 6 / Trend H.Hasanov /

Turkmenistan appointed Begench Gundogdiyev as chief of the General Staff and first deputy defense minister. He has also been put in charge of the ministry's Logistics Department.

Batir Mollayev was appointed Commander of the Land Troops.

Mollayev is the former military attache of the Turkmen Embassy in Ankara.

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov made the decision at a State Security Council meeting this week.

The meeting summarized major military priorities, the Defense Ministry Press Service reported.

"Being a neutral country Turkmenistan does not pursue any purpose other than strict adherence to principles of defensive doctrines and therefore intends to steadily strengthen the national security and defense capability of its armed forces," the Turkmen leader said.
