Georgia can exist without Russia and become a part of Europe as a free country, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said in Batumi today.

"We will not be anybody's addition. We are ready to become independent and a free part of Europe," he said.

Georgia's President stressed that there were people in Georgia in 1921, who strive after Europe, and the traitors who tried to bend Georgia in Russia's will. "But the Mensheviks, a democratic government and the Bolsheviks were blinded by a pernicious idea that Georgia can not live without Russia. This is a mistake. We must prove that Georgia is an independent and strong state," he said.

"Our country is small. But people know about our country more than about the countries that are bigger than Georgia. It does not depend only on the political changes, but on our culture and progress towards building of our country," he said.

The President again discussed the issue of betrayal. He stressed that there are people in Georgia whose hatred against the authorities of the country was transformed into hatred against people. "This is the worst consequence of slavery. We must get rid of it," he said.
