EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby arrived in Tbilisi with the next visit. This time he came to review the political situation in the country, Semneby told journalists in Tbilisi Airport.

During the visit Semneby will hold meetings with representatives of opposition parties, as well as authorities.
"I am interested in the situation that arose after the local elections and I intend to see the changing political situation and the problems that exist in the Georgian society," Semneby said.

He stressed that the local elections held May 30 were successful, although it is necessary to eliminate existing gaps till the parliamentary elections. "These elections were better than the former, but it's necessary to move forward and continue to improve the electoral situation", Semneby said.

Some time ago, the EU Commissioner Catherine Ashton stated about possibility of abolishing the status of special envoy for the South Caucasus, but the Georgian Foreign Ministry states that formally such a proposal has not received yet.
