A delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) headed by Head of the Regional Delegation for Central Asia Yves Arnoldi is on an official visit to Ashgabat, the Neytralniy Turkmenistan newspaper wrote.
The delegation noted the "productivity of the work done for the implementation of international humanitarian law in Turkmenistan in recent years".
The ICRC delegation held a series of meetings in the Foreign Ministry, National Red Crescent Society and National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the Turkmen President. The sides exchanged views on prospects for expanding cooperation.
The ICRC previously held a roundtable on practical measures to implement international humanitarian law (IHL) into the Turkmen national legislation in Ashgabat in early 2010. Deputy Head of the ICRC Regional Delegation in Central Asia Francois Blancy took part in the discussions.
Turkmenistan, which has acceded to most international treaties, ratified 118Conventions.
