Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has signed an order to appoint Myrat Atadjanov as the chairman of the Turkmen Presidential Enterprise for Caspian Sea Affairs.

Atadjanov replaced Toyly Komekov, who was dismissed after being transferred to another position.

Earlier, Berdimuhammedov reprimanded Komekov "for unsatisfactory performance."

Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran border the Caspian, which is rich in hydrocarbons and bioresources. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it has become necessary to adopt a new agreement on the legal status of the reservoir.

The five Caspian states have agreed that the agreement may be adopted by consensus. In November 2003, the Caspian countries signed the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea.
