Half government officials in Iran are members of the Basij organization, Head of State enterprises and institutions at Basij, General Mohammad Siraj said, the Iranian state news agency İRNA reports.

Half government officials in Iran are members of the Basij organization, Head of State enterprises and institutions at Basij, General Mohammad Siraj said, the Iranian state news agency İRNA reports.

"More than one million of the total two million government officers in the country are members of Basij," Siraj said.

According to Siraj, there are 430,000 government officers in Tehran today and 208,000 of them are members of Basij.

The organization of the resistance forces Basij was established by decree of the former leader of the Islamic Revolution, and in fact the Head of state, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979.
