Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 May / Trend I. Izzet /

The Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan has issued a formal report in connection with an attempt to hold an illegal protest in Khudat.

Vehicles managed by Rauf Huseynov and military servicemen of the 'N' military unit of the State Border Service Rovshan Safarov collided yesterday at 11:20 in the town of Khudat in the Khachmaz region of Azerbaijan. This resulted in a dispute between the drivers.

An investigation was initiated into the car accident by the Khudat police department of the Khachmaz District Police Station, according to a statement released by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan on Friday.

'However, a number of local functionaries from radical opposition parties, while remaining true to their inflammatory policy, have once again tried to politicise an ordinary car accident, artificially aggravating the situation in the region and creating a confrontation. After gathering at the scene, they encouraged local people to march and violate public security and order', the statement said.

The statement noted that the illegal action was prevented and several organisers including the chairman of the regional organisation of the Musavat Party Geibat Amrah as well as members Fikret Aliyev, Aleddin Mirzoev and local resident Nusrat Garaev were detained. The administrative report under Article 298.2 (violation of the rules of an organisation and assembly) of the Code of Administrative Offences was served against them. All the above persons were put under arrest by the district court in the administrative order for a period of 10 days.

According to the ministry, the district police continues taking the necessary steps to identify and bring to justice the instigators and other active participants of the illegal protest action.
