The forum of young leaders from 11 countries of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) began on Thursday in Baku.

The event is organised at the initiative of the Azerbaijani-American Youth Social Association and with the support of the Youth Foundation.

Chairman of the Azerbaijani-American Youth Social Association, Vugar Ahmadov, speaking at the event, noted that the purpose of this forum is to increase the role of youth in the development of civil society as well as building relationships between young people in the BSEC member countries.

The head of the sector dealing with the socio-political organisations of the Department for Social and Political Affairs of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Elmar Pashayev also delivered a speech at the event.

"I'm so glad that the countries of the organisation are currently demonstrating high activity. This is true for our country as well which is a clear indication of the proper direction in politics," Pashayev said.

Head of the NGO Forum of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), MP Azay Guliyev, in turn, welcomed the aspirations of young people in this area and noted that this forum will result in the expansion and strengthening of relations between the youth of the region.

The MP said a decision was made in May in Ankara to set up the Youth League of the organisation with a head office in Trabzon.

Speaking at the forum, Azerbaijani MP Asef Hajiyev said that throughout history, the Black Sea region has always been the centre of attention and now even countries that are not part of the BSEC are actively involved in its activities.

The forum discussed topics such as 'The Black Sea region: territorial conflicts and their threat to regional security', 'Perspective of International Relations of the Youth of the Black Sea Region' and so forth.

The forum will close on June 28.
