Distortion of statements of Russian State Duma MP Leonid Slutsky by Armenian media once again demonstrates that mostly Armenia and its patrons stand behind the campaign to discredit Azerbaijan on the eve of the Baku 2015 European Games, the second secretary of the press service of the Azerbaijani foreign ministry Konul Suleymanli said, commenting on recent statements of Slutsky at a press conference in the Azerbaijani embassy in Moscow.

"We got acquainted with the speech of the Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs Leonid Slutsky at a press conference in the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia with great attention," said Suleymanli. "Slutsky said that his remarks, which he made when he was on a visit to Yerevan, were distorted by media of this country, and he was imputed the statements that have no relation to him. We understand his confessions over such actions of Armenian media. This proves once again that the Armenian media not disdaining dirty methods in their propagandist activity, at every opportunity imputes words to people that do not belong to them."

Such actions of the Armenian media, which are under the full control of the state, in relation to the representatives of the Russian Federation, aim to harm the political relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, she said. This dirty propaganda is also directed against Azerbaijan, said Suleymanli.

What happened with Slutsky is another proof of this, she said.

She went on to add that Armenia should heed the calls of the international community and withdraw its troops from the occupied Azerbaijani territories rather than engage in such negative activities. This would contribute to the restoration of peace and stability in the region, she said.

Earlier Azerbaijani foreign ministry described the anti-Azerbaijani statements of the Russian State Duma member Leonid Slutsky as interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan and called them contrary to the spirit of the Azerbaijani-Russian relations. Slutsky made a number of anti-Azerbaijani statements in Yerevan, according to the Armenian media.

Slutsky himself completely denied the statements imputed to him by the Armenian media.
