“UNSANCTIONED ACTIONS TO BE PREVENTED,” YASHAR ALIYEV

“All attempts to hold unsanctioned protest actions in Baku will be prevented,” Yashar Aliyev, the deputy chief of the Baku Central Police Department, told journalist on Sunday, Trend reports.

Touching upon the �Azadlig’ (Freedom) election bloc’s attempt to hold an
unsanctioned protest action in Jafar Jabbarli square near the 28 May underground station, Aliyev said that the participants of the rally made attempt to reach the square in three directions at 16.00, but they were prevented. According to Aliyev, around 20 oppositionists were detained and taken to police stations.

In reply to the question on existence of the civilians with batons breaking up the participants of the action, he noted that they were representatives of the special police platoon eligible to participate in similar operations.

Aliyev added that the authorities proposed 3 routes for actions such as the stadium of the Azerneftyag plant, Motodrom and Galaba square, but oppositionists refused.
