MICHAIL SAAKASHVILI: CEREMONY OF BTC OIL PIPELINE GEORGIAN SECTION OPENING TO TAKE PLACE ON 12 OCTOBER
(PRIME-TASS) The opening ceremony of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline Georgian section will take place on 12 October 2005, the Georgian President Michail Saakashvili told the briefing on Wednesday. According to him, Presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan will take part in the ceremony.
Filling up the BTC Georgian section started in early August after the Azerbaijani oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Gyuneshli (ACG) oil field on the Caspian shelf crossed the border of the two countries. The process of the main pipeline filling was launched in the current May at the Sangachal terminal close to Baku, ITAR-TASS reports.
According to the Azerbaijan International Operating Company (AIOC), the operator of the Azeri-Chirag Gyuneshli oil field development and the BTC oil pipeline, the first tanker with the Caspian oil will depart the Turkish port of Ceyhan till late 2005.
The BTC throughput capacity costing about 4 billion USD is designed for pumping of 1 million barrels of oil daily.
