RAMIZ MEHTIYEV: NO NEED TO LOSE TIME FOR DISCUSSIONS OF NEW VENUES FOR OPPOSITIONAL RALLIES

The head of the Azerbaijan’s President Executive Office (PEO) Ramiz Mehtiyev considers, there is no need to lose time for debating the issue on search of the new venues for the opposition to hold their actions of protest, he told journalist on 29 September, Trend reports.

He said, on 29 September the media published the address of the Baku mayor’s office to the opposition, where “everything is set forth clearly in line with the legislation”. “We proposed 5 venues for the opposition to select and on one of them they may hold their rally”, Mehtiyev said, voicing his opinion to the issue of consultations between the opposition and the authorities in regard to demands of radical political parties to hold rallies in downtown Baku.

В"Everything is clear as to the venue, it seems to me. Therefore there is no need to sit there and lose the time. It is my standpoint, however, I do not know what decision will be taken by the secretariat of the Yeni Azerbaijan Party”, Mehtiev added.

Responding to the question, what the authorities do in case the oppositional parties decide to hold meetings in the Baku centre, Mehtiyev said, В"If they violate the law they will be held responsible”.
